How can I calm my one year old's temper tantrums?

Ignoring her is the best and so what if people look at you. With my oldest he threw a big ole fit because I told him he had to take a bite before he could have his drink because he was just sucking down his drink. We just ignored him since we were outside at a fast food restaurant. When we went to leave an old couple approached us and praised us with how well we were doing with him by not giving in. Some people might look but most understand. They eventually just quit altogether.
