Anyone use polyurethane to coat their MAC brush handles with?

I know the majority just use nail polish, but nail polish chips over time. What's worse, it doesnt apply evenly to coat the brushes! I want to preserve the numbers as much as anyone does, and I want to do it with polyurethane. Thing is, has anyone done this before?
